I add 2 (Feb) + 25 + 0 (2156), +5 (the 2100's), and that totals to 32, which reduces to 4. That's Thursday. But in the exercise above it says it's Wednesday. I may have come up with something that is easier to remember--IF CORRECT. Every leap year, the code jumps by FIVE. So if you have the rule of twelve down (and that's easy) why not just add five to get to the next leap year and then add one for each year after the leap year. EX for 2041: Start with 3 for 2036; add 5 to get to 2040 = 8. Add one for 2041 = 9. Drop the seven and the year code =2. Is that not simpler? And would this method (combining your "Rule of 12" with a "Rule of 5" work at least thru 2099? Here's the simple explanation for figuring out these codes. We know that a year ending in '00 has a year code of zero. So all we have to do is make the correct adjustment for the century. We know we have to add 5 for dates in the 1700's, 3 for dates in the 1800's, and 1 for dates in the 1900's. This means that the year code for 1700 is a 5, 1800 is a 3, and 1900 is a 1.
